Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho added another chapter to their longstanding rivalry after engaging in a shoving match on Sunday.
Wenger tried to confront Mourinho about the careless tackle from Gary Cahill on Alexis Sanchez during Chelsea's 2-0 win against Arsenal. Mourinho appeared unready to listen, which led to Wenger shoving his counterpart.
In a post-game press conference, Wenger said that he did not regret his action despite the fact that he might get disciplinary penalties from the Football Association.
"What is to regret after that?" Wenger said via ESPN FC. "I wanted to go from A to B and somebody confronted me in between without any sign of welcome. B was Sanchez, to see how badly he was injured."
Mourinho said that he told Wenger to "back off" when the Arsenal boss tried to press the officials to hand a red card to Cahill after his tackle to Sanchez. Mourinho said that he won't allow any counterpart to get into his area just to voice out his displeasure over a non-call.
"There are two technical areas, one for me, one for him," Mourinho said. "He was coming to my technical area and he was not coming for the right reasons. He was not coming to give some tactical instructions or something. He was coming to press the referee to give a red card and I didn't like that."
Mourinho, who has had conflicts with Wenger before, played down the incident, knowing that the match was a heated one because it is an important showdown between two great clubs. The Portuguese football manager also praised Jonathan Moss for the way he handled the incident.
"To be fair, I do so many wrong things in football," Mourinho admitted. "Sometimes you lose emotion and I did so many wrong things, but not this time, because this time I was just in my technical area and it was not my problem. Game over. Story over."
Earlier this year, Mourinho called Wenger as "a specialist in failure" because of his previous decisions. The Chelsea boss previously said that he won't apologize to Wenger for that statement.
