"Arrow" Season 4 is expected to deliver more creative and diverse episodes as it returns this fall. Since the previous season surprisingly ended on a happy note, the upcoming season will also return with a much lighter tone despite the very dark twists in Starling City.
As Stephen Amell's secret vigilante and costumed crime-fighter character, Green Arrow, returns to The CW for "Arrow" Season 4, he will face his most difficult challenge yet as the series delves deeper on uneasy alliances while rivalries change.
Moreover, executive producer Marc Guggenheim also hinted that "Arrow" Season 4 will return with a new attitude in tow and confirmed that things in Starling City won't be as dark, TVInsider noted.
"We're eyeing a lighter tone," Guggenheim teased while admitting the show has been "very dark" since the middle of Season 2. And given Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Oliver Queen's (Amell) penchant for keeping secrets and finding trouble, Guggenheim added, "It's never going to be The Flash!"
Amell also shared that "Arrow" Season 4 will be getting bigger and will deal with magic and mysticism. Speaking of mystical things, TVLine revealed that Matt Ryan is set to appear as a guest star in the series' fifth episode as John Constantine, the demon fighter he portrayed on the short-lived drama that aired on NBC.
"So, what we are dealing with this year — and I wouldn't say it's as concrete as it was last year when it was like 'The Theme: Identity!' — is magic and mysticism," Amell said, as previously reported. "And Oliver alludes very early on in the season that this is something that he's seen before, so clearly that will play into this year's flashbacks for him."
Meanwhile, Oliver Queen is getting a love interest in the flashbacks, which will have a connection to the present day events in the fourth season. However, What Culture revealed that the flashback romance will spark an interesting contrast to his new relationship with Felicity.
