Border Biscuits that was founded in 1984 is gearing for expansion after securing fund from Clydesdale Bank.
The biscuit company that won the Cakes and Biscuit Company of the Year award in 2012 at the Manufacture Excellence Awards is adding new production line to its Lanark facility after they secured a funding package with Clydesdale Bank. The exact figure was undisclosed, but it is said that it is a seven figure fund, according to Food Manufacture.co.uk.
"Our latest funding package from Clydesdale Bank will allow us to significantly expand our operations and grow UK and international sales," Mark Bruce, UK sales and marketing director at Border Biscuits said.
The award winning biscuits maker is currently producing 24 types of biscuit and has been supplying their goods to food service businesses, wholesalers, retailers and big supermarkets, including Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's.
The biscuit company reportedly generated more than £14.5 million in sales in its last financial year and now it is expected to generate more as it plans to expand south of the border and into international markerts.
"Working closely with industry organisations has strengthened our knowledge of the sector and helps us to provide unparalleled support to our food and drink customers," Head of Clydesdale's Lanarkshire business and private banking center, Simon Kerr said.
"We understand the opportunities and challenges faced by the industry and we are perfectly placed to help businesses in the food and drink sector to realise their growth ambitions," Kerr added.
Border Biscuits first operated their business with just four varieties of biscuits with four employees that were working inside a small factory that has almost no machinery. After many years and continues growth the company proudly introduced its first automated production line five years ago, which helped the company dramatically increase in volumes.
