There's probably no one in the job industry who hasn't gotten stuck once or twice (at least!) with a bad employer. However, there are ways to avoid this: you can keep an eye out for a bad boss and try to identify him/her before you accept the offer of working in their company.
Be prepared to notice both the obvious signs of bad employer behavior and the more subtle kind, advises Monster.
Here are some signs that will help you figure out if this is a boss you don't want to be stuck working for.
1. Observe the way they answer your questions
In most interviews, you will get a chance to ask your own questions at the end. Experts suggest you keep an eye out for evasive or dodging answers, or even rushing to employ you before they seem satisfied with you can mean trouble. One smart question you could ask is by turning the tables on your interviewer and asking them what they like about their job. If they fidget or try to dodge this one, it could be a red flag.
2. Keep your eyes open
Observe the environment: be alert. Is the company welcoming? If no one is smiling, it should at least make you wonder: if this is them making an effort to put in a good first impression, what will normal days at work be like?
After all, people are identified by how they treat their inferiors, and in this position, you are at least dependent on them. A healthy environment is where the boss and employees treat each other with civility at the very least, and preferably are comfortable taking advice and input from their superiors.
3. Look for signs of over-expectation
An interview is not the place to decide additional work commitments or too many work hours. It doesn't matter if you are willing to put in extra hours, companies should not be depending on regular non-contracted hours; because that is a sign they aren't managing their people properly.
