In the latest news for Amazon Kindle users, there is a critical software update that Kindle devices must have.
Kindle e-reader devices would need the latest critical update by March 22 or users will be locked out from the internet, according to Independent.
Users will be prompted by an error message when they switch their Kindle devices on and will not be able to connect to the internet. The error message will read: "Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please make sure you are within wireless range and try again. If the problem persists, please restart your Kindle from the Menu in Settings and try again."
The disadvantage will also disable users from syncing their Kindles, accessing the cloud or downloading any new books. CNET reported that the update is necessary in order for Kindle device to remain compliant with the continuously evolving industry web standards.
Amazon, the largest online retail company, has warned Kindle users that everyone needs their devices to be updated. It critically applies to the 2012 Kindle Paperwhite and all other previous versions. Basically, if your Kindle is more than four years old, you need to have it updated as soon as possible. The following devices below, however, do not need to be updated:
- Kindle Paperwhite 6th & 7th Gen.
- Kindle 7th Gen.
- Kindle Voyage 7th Gen.
In addition, Amazon explains that the Kindle Keyboard 3rd Generation, the Kindle Touch 4th Generation and the Kindle Paperwhite 5th Generation will only update via Wi-Fi, even if you have the 3G connection active.
What if you are not able to update your Kindle by March 22 via wifi? Don't worry. Amazon advices that you will need to go through the website to get the update downloaded via PC then install it in your Kindle via a USB device. As instructed by Amazon, to install the update, go to the Kindle home screen, go to the Menu and select 'Sync and Check for Items' - it'll then update when the device goes to sleep. When the updated has been fully installed, you'll find a confirmation letter called "03-2016 Successful Update."
