"Grand Theft Auto 5" has just reached its record-breaking 70 millionth consignment batch worldwide, making it one of the most consistently popular games in the last half decade.
Take-Two Interactive, the principal umbrella company preceding Rockstar Games and 2K Games, has submitted an overall data analysis of their second quarter fiscal report for 2017 on September 30.
It pays to take note that "Grand Theft Auto 5" is not a newly released viral video game. This title series was launched on September 17, 2013. Even after three years, it still continues to attract consumers worldwide.
This video game franchise has successfully adapted to the demands of the current 'online gaming era'. In a chronicle revealed by Business Insider, "Grand Theft Auto 5" is one of the three most popular online video games (74,533 active players) in Steam digital distribution platform.
It ranks 3rd consecutively right after "Dota 2" (996,176 active players) and "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" (598,118 active players). A similar report from Gamespot confirmed that GTA Online, the real-time multiplayer system for "Grand Theft Auto 5", had a total average of 8 million players per week in 2015.
This level of popularity has single-handedly contributed to the franchise's monstrous sales. It has reputedly earned 800 million sales during the first day of its release. Incidentally, Take-Two Interactive is already working on the development of its sixth title series. As far as popular speculations are concerned, Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to hit the retail stores in 2018.
"Grand Theft Auto 5" remains to be a phenomenal success because of its excellent game mechanics. It is the first in their extensive series that allow three playable protagonists in single player mode. The same principle was later borrowed in other subsequent video games, particularly the "Assassins Creed: Unity". 3 out of 9 video game publications (Edge, IGN and Games Radar) have given "Grand Theft Auto 5" a perfect review rating.
