After the success of live-action adaptations of the famous anime shows "Samurai X" and "Attack on Titan," it appears that another huge anime franchise is getting the same treatment. The "Fullmetal Alchemist" gets its confirmation for a live-action movie with the release of the official teaser trailer.
Based on the casting and the style, it appears that the movie will be made in Japanese production through Warner Bros, as reported by Anime News Network. This means that the production helm all the way to the actors will be picked and headed by Japanese.
In this manner, the "Fullmetal Alchemist" movie will be able to sidestep potential Hollywood whitewashing unlike other live-action adaptations in development. "Ghost in the Shell" and the "Deathnote" movie adaptations will not be as great as this, as per the Collider.
The trailer shows actor Ryosuke Yamada playing as protagonist Edward Elric in full costume, up to the gloves and the boots. The movie, based on the trailer, will be in full CG. This makes it more stunning to see alchemy happen in the big screen.
But "Fullmetal Alchemist" have to wait and see how Edward Elric's prosthetic metal arms and legs will look like in CG as the trailer doesn't show it off yet. Thankfully though, we see Ed's younger brother, Alfonso Elric, in the trailer, although only a silhouette.
The story of "Fullmetal Alchemist" involves the adventure of two brothers Edward and Alfonso Elric, on a quest to regain their full bodies back through the Philosopher's Stone. This was a taboo alchemy ritual that aimed to revive their dead mother went horribly wrong and took instead parts of Edwards body and Alfonso's whole body.
For fans eager to watch this live-action adaptation, it is going to be a long wait despite the teaser trailer dropping this early. The movie is set for release winter of 2017 with no confirmed official release date yet.
