Stephen Curry is one of the most coveted point guards in the 2017 NBA free agency. The Golden State Warriors have yet to talk about Curry's extension but there are already NBA rumors surrounding him if he would stay. There have been talks and rumors if the Warrior's all-star point guard will join his hometown team, the Charlotte Hornets.
According to ESPN, Curry was asked if he would join the Charlotte Hornets in free agency. These NBA rumors ignited when Curry's hometown NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, was in Oakland for a game against the Raiders.
"Obviously I love it here in the Bay Area,"Curry responded when asked if there's a possibility of him going back home to Charlotte and play for the Hornets. His response was quite clear that he would probably stay and play in Golden State according to The Charlotte Observer. He also bought a house in California and he loves playing for Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.
But Curry will be a free agent in 2017 and is currently underpaid with a player of his caliber. For the past years, his salary only reached around $12 million and he isn't even ranked among the top 75 highest-paid players in the NBA.
Financial issues and free agency leave an open door for NBA rumors if Curry will play for the Hornets. Kevin Durant's contract with the Warriors is also another factor since he has a player option of leaving the team in 2017. The Warriors would face salary problems next year which would affect both players if they would stay or not.
There are also other factors which would make these NBA rumors happen. Curry's family live in Charlotte and he also owns a house there. His father, Dell Curry, is also a former Hornet and works as a broadcaster for the franchise.
"I don't know" was Curry's final response when asked about joining the Hornets in free agency in 2017. He is faced with a decision between family and career but so far, he likes it in Golden State. NBA fans just need to wait until next year if these NBA rumors would happen.
