Director Antoine Fuqua once announced that "Equalizer 2" will hit movie theaters on September 29, 2017. However, recent reports confirmed that the anticipated sequel to the film "Equalizer" will be delayed and moved to September 14, 2018. Denzel Washington reunites with the director since the 2016 "Magnificent Seven" remake.
Although Denzel Washington has proven himself a monumental movie star for the past three decades, he never actually had to play in sequels. From an illegitimate son in the 1981 comedy "Carbon Copy" to an upcoming 2016 drama "Fences," the actor was not known to play the same exact role more than once. "Equalizer 2" offers him this unique chance.
The slight setback to the promised 2017 release date has a lot to do with Denzel Washington's prior commitments. In an article published by Games N Guide, the director Antoine Fuqua reveals that the delay of the opening night is caused by the filming of "Equalizer 2" scheduled in May of 2017. Four months is not enough to wrap the production, even for a multi-awardee celebrity like Denzel Washington.
Speaking of awards, an article by University Herald reveals that Denzel Washington is scheduled to receive the Maltin Modern Master Award from Santa Barbara Film Festival - an organization that also supports pooling talents from independent film makers. Curiously, his performance in "Equalizer" even prompted television actor Steve Howey to deem him as a better candidate than Matt Damon in the "Bourne" franchise.
Can't wait for The Equalizer 2. The first one was so underrated. Denzel should have been Jason Bourne. #theequalizer2 #DenzelWashington

But if anyone could choose a worthy rival for "Equalizer," that franchise could be "John Wick" since both films debuted in 2014. An article published by Jobs & Hire details how Keanu Reeves dedicated so much effort in preparation for his role in its own upcoming sequel.
