Hugh Jackman has been reprising his role as Wolverine in six "X-Men" film series and two solo Wolverine movies. After 17 years, the Australian actor decides to sheathe his claws and pave the way for the new 'Weapon X' in the upcoming film "Logan."
Upon several confirmed reports of his dated departure from the Wolverine saga, fans are naturally saddened. After all, Hugh Jackman has been the only real reference X-Men fans had for nearly two decades. The most obvious reason for Hugh Jackman to depart from his memorable role has a lot to do with his age.
It is important to take note that Wolverine was the only character that did not have a younger actor. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn had James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence to reprise the younger versions of Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique respectively.

An article published by News Everyday reveals that "Logan" is set in a far distant future wherein the old and worn Wolverine continues to stalk his 'Weapon X' clone. The young female X-23 is destined to succeed the eponymous character in possible future X-Men sagas.
In the upcoming "Logan" movie, Wolverine plays the role of a mentor to X-23 who is endowed with increased super-human agility and the notable ultra-fast self-healing. A report by Business 2 Community describes how the film is set in a peculiar period when mutant evolution has reach a mysteriously drastic decline.
