Adrien Broner Aching For Rematch With Marcos Maidana, Insists He Is The Closest Thing To Floyd Mayweather Jr. [Video]

Adrien Broner is still oozing with confidence despite absorbing his first defeat last month against Marcos Maidana in their WBA welterweight title showdown in San Antonio.

Broner, who went unscathed in his first 27 fights before being dominated by Maidana, said that his Argentine opponent was at his best during their first fight, but he vowed to be more than ready if ever they'll square off once again.

Maidana was a heavy underdog heading into the match mainly because of his opponent's unblemished record, but the 30-year-old native of Buenos Aires managed to defy the odds.

The fighter known in the boxing circle as "El Chino" took control right from the opening round and punctuated his dominance when he knocked Broner down in second and eighth round of their match, leading to a lopsided unanimous decision win.

The 24-year-old American reaffirmed his desire to have an immediate rematch with Maidana. Previous reports suggested that the two are set to square off again on April 19 or 26, but Maidana remains non-committal to the proposed fight date.

"Sometimes when you get hit with good shots, it's some shots you just don't see. You're gonna get hit with big shots. But at the end of the day, man, you know, we're ready to go back to camp. We're ready for the rematch. If we could've fought him on Sunday (the day after the fight), we would've fought him on Sunday," Broner siad in a ShowTime interview.

The 24-year-old American, who previously proclaimed that he is the heir apparent to Floyd Mayweather, insisted that the loss will not change his previous assessment, saying that fight fans also felt that Mayweather was defeated after his setback against Maidana.

"I'm the closest thing to Floyd Mayweather, so since I took my loss, everybody feel like Floyd Mayweather took a loss," Broner said. "Because I'm the closest thing to him, and still to this day I'm the closest thing to him."

Maidana and Broner are expected to eventually square off for the second time this year, but not in April as indicated by previous reports.

Maidana's camp has already turned down the initial proposal, saying that Maidana needs more time to prepare before his first title defense. The reigning WBA welterweight champion also reasoned out that his girlfriend is expected to give birth in mid-March.
