Boxing News: Robert Garcia Says Marcos Maidana Will Outbox Floyd Mayweather, Argentine Champion Looking For A Knockout

Robert Garcia knows that beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be easier said than done, but he vowed that Marcos Maidana will be ready for his upcoming showdown against the undefeated champion on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Garcia said that he has already mapped out Maidana's fight plan, revealing that they are planning to break Mayweather's vaunted defense by throwing many punches every round.

"Mayweather is very defensive and doesn't throw a lot of punches. With Maidana, I will prepare him to throw 100 punches per round. Winning won't be easy, but nothing is impossible," Garcia said.

Garcia also expressed confidence that Maidana has the tools to score an upset win against Mayweather Jr.

The famed trainer said that even the best has to taste a defeat at some point of his career, citing boxing legends Muhammad Ali and Ray Leonard, who were considered as the best of their generations but also suffered defeats.

"The best have lost," Garcia stressed. "[Ray] Leonard lost, [Muhammad] Ali lost. Everyone who goes against Mayweather is afraid. And Maidana will be physically and mentally ready for twelve intense rounds. He's going to fight dirty, tough and strong."

Maidana, for his part, vowed to train hard for the biggest fight of his boxing career, saying that he will go all out to prove that he deserves the opportunity to face the reigning pound-for-pound king, contrary to some boxing analysts' perception that Amir Khan is a more deserving opponent to Mayweather.

"I respect him very much as a boxer. He chose me. He must know that I earned this position, that I deserved the opportunity. I earned it with my last four fights. To beat him, it is necessary to fight with everything," Maidana said.

And when pressed to give a prediction on the biggest test of his boxing career, Maidana confidently said that he can score a stunning knockout win over the 37-year-old Mayweather.

"I wanted to earn this fight to remain in the history of Argentine boxing. That's why I wanted this fight very much. It is a very big opportunity for me. I believe that with the type of punches that I throw, I can knock him out," Maidana said.
