The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to become one of the busiest teams this offseason as they continue to retool their team in hopes of finally ending their playoff drought.
According to reports, the Cavaliers are looking to acquire another first-round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, and they are willing to give up incoming third-year guard Dion Waiters, ProBasketballDraft reported.
Waiters, who averaged 15.9 points to go along with 3.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds in his sophomore season, has been a subject of trade rumors over the past several months, especially before last season's trade deadline.
The 22-year-old sophomore has been showing a good glimpse of his potential, but the Cavaliers are reportedly planning to move the former Syracuse standout because he has not been meshing well with star point guard Kyrie Irving. Previous reports indicated that Irving and Waiters were involved in locker room disputes.
The Cavaliers own the first-overall pick in the upcoming draft, which they can use to pick Kansas star Andrew Wiggins or Duke standout Jabari Parker, but they want another pick in order to get another prospect in the stacked rookie draft next week.
Waiters could also be involved in a trade package if the Cavaliers decide to make a strong push to acquire Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are expected to listen to offers for the star forward after the former UCLA standout declined to sign an extension.
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are also expected to name a new head coach soon to replace Mike Brown last month.
According to reports, the Cavaliers were seriously considering naming Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Tyronn Lue, but Cleveland had made a change of heart and are now on the verge of naming EuroLeague coaching legend David Blatt.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Cavaliers and Blatt's representatives are already discussing contract terms, but not agreement has been reached at this point.
"In a bold move, the Cleveland Cavaliers have offered EuroLeague icon David Blatt their head-coaching job, league sources told Yahoo Sports," Wojnarowski wrote. "The Cavaliers and Blatt's representatives are in the process of negotiating terms of a deal, but no agreement has been reached."
