'Edge of Seventeen' News & Updates: Movie Critics Loved It; Film Considered As A Coming-Of-Age Classic

Hailee Steinfield's new movie "Edge of Seventeen" is getting great reviews from critics. Critics called it one of the best high school films in the last 25 years.

The movie is about a girl Nadine who finds out that her older brother and her best friend are together, which make her feel betrayed and abandoned. New York Times reported it to be a "run-of-the-mill high school melodrama"

The site explained that compared to other teenage movies like "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and "Clueless" this movie can stand of its own. It has a raw honestly that barely approaches the "The Diary of a Teenage Girl", where a 15-year old girl encourages her mother's boyfriend to have an affair.

"The Edge of Seventeen" may be in line for coming-of-age classics like "Clueless", "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Breakfast Club". "Clueless" is about a popular high school girl named Cher Horowitz, played by Alicia Silverstone, who is into fashion makeovers.

Her life turned up side down when she was upstaged by her friend Tai after she got into an accident. She realized that it is her soul that needs a makeover. The movie is inspired by Jane Austen's Emma, The Guardian reported.

"Pan's Labyrinth" is a movie by Guillermo Del Toro that is about a girl named Ofelia, who is torn between fairytale and horror. Ofelia found out that she is the lost princess of the underworld and set out to prove that she is not a true mortal.The coming-of-age movie teaches teens on making their own choices and breaking rules in a world where people don't have a choice.

There is the classic teen movie called "Breakfast Club" which was created by John Hudges. It is a modern coming-of-age story of five high school students who are trapped into stereotypes. It is a movie that embodies the fears of teenagers which is "when you grow up, your heart dies.

Lastly, there is the "Transformers" that Jobs and Hire reported that will be back on theaters next year. This may not be considered a coming-of-age story but it show case the importance of family and friendship that can also be seen in the "Edge of Seventeen."
