Shinkai's "Your Name" in Japan after 102 days earned a whopping 20 billion yen from sold tickets as of Tuesday. The anime movie is confirmed to have its screening on IMAX in Japan for 2 weeks starting January 13, 2017.
According to Anime News Network the anime movie "Your Name" has surpassed Studio Ghibli's and Hayao Mizaki's anime film "Howl's Moving Castle" earnings of 19.6 billion yen, thus taking "Your Name" anime movie as the fifth highest income film of all time in Japan. The "Your Name" anime movie is second highest income Japanese film in Japan and second of the highest income anime movie in Japan. The "Spirited Away" Japanese film was one the only one that grossed higher than "Your Name."
In addition to this the film is now ranked 2nd on its 15th weekend. The "Fantastastic Beast" and "Where to Find Them" managed to top the chart on its second weekend at the Japanese box office. Shinkai's "Your Name" managed to reach an unbelievable rank on the charts since its release in July 3, 2016 on Anime Expo. In the 10th week of its screening "Death Note Light up the New World" managed to surpass "Your Name" putting it to 2nd in the charts.
According to Crunchyroll a comment from Shinkai was released stating that he would like to express his deepest gratitude to everyone who has watched the film. In addition he stated that he was taught that films sometimes have the power to connect with the society, and he will keep thinking about 'what kind of story he should make, why, and how?
Further reports states that "Your Name" anime movie is expected to surpass the fourth all-time highest income film "Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone" in 2001 which has earned 20.3 billion yen. This is upon speculating all the reports about "Your Name" anime movie which is scheduled for screening in IMAX on January 13, 2017. People behind the animated film are at high hopes to increase the total income probably at around 40 billion yen.
