One may aptly describe the initial release date announcement of "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" as 'premature.' Warner Brothers moved the opening night from July 22, 2016, to February 17, 2017. The recent reports now confirm that this epic film will move forward again for March 24, 2017, and then again on May 12, 2017.
It is safe to speculate that the reason for the delay of "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" has a lot to do with its chances to compete with other blockbuster films slated during the initial dates. However, an article published by the Variety asserts that the first rescheduling has a lot to do with the producers' desire to hit the 'President's Day.'
Now that it has been knocked back three months forward, whatever could be their next excuse? Apart from 'premature,' a new word has been coined in the report by Comic Book Movie. 'Tumultuous' is a fitting adjective for the film's production phase.
In any case, it was not only the release date that underwent an exhausting series of indecisions. "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" also went through some casting alterations. There are two identified actors that canceled the initial casting, namely Idris Elba and Elizabeth Olsen, replaced by Djimon Hounsou and Astrid Berges-Frisbey respectively.
A report published by Jobs & Hire in early 2016 describes how the film is centered on the peculiar romance narrative of Uther Pendragon and Lady Igraine. Curiously, however, the updated Wikipedia article did not underscore King Arthur's eponymous mother in the main casts. In fact, the trailer seems to suggest an 'investigative theme' that seeks to explore the legend quite reminiscent of the 2015 "Hercules" movie starring Dwayne Johnson.
In any case, director Guy Ritchie reunites with Jude Law in this latest film adaptation of the Arthurian legend. Curiously, he is to play a role of a villain pitted against lead actor Charlie Hunnam.
