Kyrie Irving is reportedly unhappy in Cleveland and he wants out of the Cavaliers, but the superstar point guard played down speculations about his future.
Irving expressed frustrations about reports indicating that he is planning to leave the Cavaliers either through trade or free agency, reiterating that he is not yet thinking about his future moves.
Irving told reporters that he is not thinking of leaving the Cavaliers at this point, insisting that he is focused on winning games and helping the Cavs return to the playoffs.
"They're writing reports, 'Is he staying or is he going?' I mean that's the last of my worries right now," Irving said, via ESPN. "It's portraying me in a light and it's bringing negativity to the team that I don't want. Our focus right now and my focus right now is winning and trying to finish out the season strong."
Irving also expressed anger over what he described as a barrage of attack from the media, especially after one report indicated that he is growing frustrated in Cleveland. The 22-year-old point guard said that the media attacks have gotten into a point where he needs to voice out his frustration.
"The barrage and little bit of attack that I saw, I've been getting it all season and I feel I definitely don't deserve it," Irving said. "It's one of those things where I can deal with it, but at a certain point, it's gotten too much. It's been like that the whole entire season."
Irving, who was the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, has yet to make the playoffs, and is often criticized for failing to make his teammates look better as a point guard.
The former Duke standout, who can sign a maximum contract extension this summer, admitted that he is not yet where he wants to be as a player, but he feels that the he is being unfairly scrutinized.
"For a third-year player, it's been frustrating," Irving said. "No other third-year player is probably going through what I'm going through right now, which has been the most frustrating part. It's just gotten to a point where I needed to say something."
