NBA Free Agents Rumors and News: Are The Toronto Raptors Planning To Have A Reunion With Vince Carter?

The Toronto Raptors were perennial cellar dwellers before Vince Carter came to the franchise's rescue, but their relationship ended unceremoniously after the high-flying guard was traded.

After more than six highlight-filled seasons in Toronto, Carter was dealt to the New Jersey Nets, a decision that did not sit well to Raptors fans. But 10 years after the infamous trade, Raptors fans might see 'Air Canada' in a Raptors uniform again.

Canada.com reported that the Raptors could make a run at signing Carter, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri recently said in an interview that the Raptors are now more open to re-acquiring Carter than before.

In fact, MLSE President and CEO Tim Leiweke reportedly sat down with Carter when the Dallas Mavericks were in Toronto, with the permission of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

"When asked about a possible reunion, Ujiri mentioned the organization is more open than it was before," Ujiri said when asked about the possibility of signing Carter. "Oh, and he also mentioned that Tim Leiweke, MLSE President and CEO, met with Carter when the Dallas Mavericks last came into town."

Carter, who is averaging 12.1 points to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this season, is not expected to have the same impact that he had before in Toronto, but could provide the veteran leadership the Raptors need if their front office executives view the team as a playoff contender in the next several seasons.

When asked about the possibility of returning to where his illustrious career started, Carter previously said that he will not hesitate to accept the Raptors' offer.

"If (Toronto) gave me the opportunity, I don't even think I'd let them finish the question. Yes. I'm in," Carter said in a TSN interview. "Could I see it? Absolutely. I'd leave that up to the franchise. It all started in Toronto, I'd be a fool to ever forget that."
