Just this Wednesday, the 24-year-old actress was seen strolling with Matthew Hitt in the streets of Manhattan. This instantly sparked rumors that there is certainly brewing romance between the two.
Johnson - the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson - is playing submissive Anastasia Steele in the erotic movie-adaptation, alongside model turned actor Jamie Dornan, who plays the titular Christian Grey.
Now, because the movie that is slated for a February 13 release is getting a lot of attention lately, sources say that everyone is putting the lead actors under the microscope. And unfortunately for Johnson, it's her dating life that is being sensationalized in hopes that their movie will continue to attract online buzz until the time it officially hit theaters worldwide.
Several celebrity and gossip sites have been following the online trend. Hence, when Dakota Johnson's dating adventure with American-Welsh indie rock band Drowners lead vocalist Matthew Hitt was photographed by the paparazzi, many instantly assumed that the two are sharing a romantic relationship, especially Hollywood Life sources.
Dakota Johnson's dating rumor with Hitt is said to be giving the aspiring model all the attention he needs to establish his name in Hollywood. The singer-songwriter, who moved from Wales to New York in 2011, has notably appeared in Gucci, Band of Outsiders and AllSaints campaigns.
Johnson's alleged relationship with Hitt was further fueled when the two were photographed holding each other's hand. Another photo that has surfaced today shows Hitt wrapping his arm around Johnson.
The timing of their alleged date however is said to be very questionable, according to some sources, who claim that this is all just a publicity stunt. While Johnson and Hitt are yet to break their silence to confirm the rumors, it is safe to say that they are not exclusively dating.
Meanwhile, Dakota Johnson has dated in the past. She was previously in a relationship with 28-year-old actor Jordan Masterson, but the two reportedly split in October 2013.
As for Matthew Hitt, he was previously wooing British model Atlanta De Cadanet, but nobody knew whatever happened between them.
Perhaps it's very unfortunate that Dakota Johnson's co-actor Jamie Dornan is already taken. The 32-year-old actor, who is married to Amelia Warner, could have been the subject of Dakota Johnson's dating rumors by now.
